What size Lugg Lockers do I need?
Lugg Lockers are available in CLASSIC and COMPACT sizes as well as top and bottom for each model.
CLASSIC fits the majority of modern drum lugs and tension rods used by most major manufacturers.
COMPACT is designed for reduced-size square lug heads commonly found on vintage drums, older production kits, and select models.
Because lug sizes can vary between brands, models, and production years, we recommend checking your lug size if you are unsure, then email us with the size so we can confirm.
What is the difference between CLASSIC and COMPACT?
The difference is the size of the square section of the tension rod where the drum key fits.
Some drum brands use both sizes across different ranges and eras, which is why two sizes are available.
Which drum brands use CLASSIC size lugs?
CLASSIC is commonly used on most modern drum kits and hardware, including current models from brands such as Pearl, DW, Tama, Yamaha, Mapex, Sonor, Gretsch, Ludwig (not vintage), and others.
This size covers the majority of drums currently in production.
Which drum brands use COMPACT size lugs?
COMPACT is most often found on vintage drums, older production kits, and some entry-level or imported models.
Brands such as Ludwig, Gretsch, Pearl, Tama, Yamaha, Mapex, and Sonor have produced drums using reduced lug sizes in certain eras or ranges.
Why do some brands appear in both size categories?
Many drum manufacturers have changed lug designs over time or use different hardware across product ranges.
A brand may use CLASSIC size lugs on modern kits and COMPACT size lugs on older or vintage models.
For this reason, brand name alone is not always a reliable indicator of fit.
How can I tell which size I need?
The most accurate way is to measure the square section of your tension rod.
If your lug measures within the modern full-size range (5.3mm), CLASSIC is the correct choice.
If your lug is noticeably smaller or from a vintage or older kit (4.9mm), COMPACT is likely the better fit.

Do Lugg Lockers affect tuning or damage lugs?
No. Lugg Lockers are designed to sit securely over the square lug head without altering tuning or damaging hardware.
They prevent tension rods from backing out due to vibration, hoop flex, and playing impact, while allowing normal tuning adjustments (just quickly pop it off - dial in your tuning - then pop it back on).
Can I mix CLASSIC and COMPACT on the same drum kit?
Yes. Some drummers with mixed or vintage setups may require both sizes depending on the hardware used across different drums. Again, email us for more info.
